Sacha Baron Cohen Is Saddam HusseinPosted: January 21, 2011
You heard it, sort of. Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali G, Borat), is set to play a dictator created by Saddam Hussein in the upcoming movie, ‘The Dictator‘. The movie is said to be an adaptation of a best-selling novel by Saddam Hussein, ‘ Zabibah and The King‘, based on an Iraqi leader who falls in love with a regular girl, with the movie said to be telling ” the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed”, as Paramount, who will be making the film, joked.
Although it was believed that the book was written by Saddam himself, it was later found that it was written by ‘ghost writers’, whom Saddam closely supervised. It has been confirmed Baron Cohen will be playing a fictional dictator which is inspired by the aforementioned novel, which will be directed by Larry Charles, who also worked on Borat and Bruno, although Baron Cohen and others have written the script which will be used.
So, I think it’s fair to say that this will be another very controversial character, but one which I think will be weirdly hilarious, and I look forward to watching it. Although there’s nothing to be too excited about yet, as The Dictator is set to hit the big screen in May, 2012.
Also, be sure to watch out for Number 2 in iHartMovies’ Top Ten Films of 2010, which will be revealed later today.
