Titanic, once the highest-grossing movie of all time (until it was taken over by Avatar), is considered by many, to be the most successful movie ever to be made. At a whopping 194 minutes long, this movie epic depicts the unfortunate story of the greatest ship ever built, the RMS Titanic, which, during its voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, hit a huge iceberg and sank, ending in the death of over 1500 passengers (1517 passengers, to be precise). Directed by the discernibly distinguished director, James Cameron, this movie classic stars one of the most brilliant and respected actors to appear in the movie industry, Leonardo DiCaprio, along with also highly renowned actress, Kate Winslet.

The story focuses around two passengers in particular, who meet on board the Titanic: Jack (DiCaprio) and Rose (Winslet) – two people from entirely different social backgrounds who fall in love during the journey to New York. As the movie goes on, their relationship develops further, starting from not knowing each other at all, to eventually being completely in love, wanting to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Unfortunately for them, though, the disastrous fate of the Titanic cuts this relationship short, with Jack and Rose eventually, being in each others arms in the ocean in the middle of the wreck, with nothing left to do, but hope to be rescued.

The movie then ends, with Jack dying, and Rose living a full, yet reminiscent life, telling back her story of how she met and fell in love with Jack, all whilst the most impressive ship ever built reaches its sad demise. The movie then ends with a scene showing Rose, being reunited with Jack once again, 84 long years later, in a somewhat dream-like sequence; possibly some sort of afterlife, being happy once again back in 1912, as Jack kisses her once again, like he did all those years ago..

Although this movie is quite accurate, it isn’t completely accurate in terms of matching the actual events at which the Titanic occurred, as it has been tailored to be more Hollywood-esque. But, of course, the added dramatic storylines, especially the relationship between Jack and Rose, make this movie an even more dramatically emotional rollercoaster, and this only drastically improves the quality and enjoyment of the movie, combined of course, with the primary storyline of the sinking of the Titanic. A brilliantly crafted movie, by a brilliant director; this movie is a great piece of work. It shows the lives of two young strangers, who become one through love, whilst going through a massive and historical, yet hugely unfortunate event, which cuts their destinies short. A compelling and emotional watch, this is one movie that everyone will enjoy.

1984: The Terminator

The Terminator, 1984

The Terminator, one of the most unique movies for its time, takes the place for 1984 in iHartMovies’ Monumental Movies Exclusive. I’m sure you all know the simple, yet effective plot to this movie, so to sum up, Arnold Schwarzenegger, plays a cyborg, all wired up, under living, human tissue, as a disguise, sent from the future, in an attempt to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), before she gives birth to son, John Connor, who will ultimately grow up to become a leader of the resistance against self-aware machines who will inevitably take over the world. Amazing, I know. But that isn’t all; a man, Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) is sent to stop The Terminator.

In the end of the movie, with the help, yet unfortunate death of John’s father, Reese, Sarah manages to survive, destroying the Terminator. The scene shows Sarah recording a monologue for John Connor (of which some of the recordings can be heard in later movies, including Terminator Salvation). She then contemplates stuff about John and the future, before driving off into the distance. Although still a great movie, The Terminator was way ahead of its time, and as it is now, a classic. Arguably the movie that blasted Arnie’s movie career sky-high, this was the trigger for an even bigger particular movie released in 1991…

Although Arnie is clearly one of the most awesome, yet corniest actors ever, I always thought that he suited the role of the Terminator. His comical accent, mixed with a constant sense of seriousness, along with buffed up body, is the perfect combination for a killer cyborg…This movie has a simple, yet enjoyable plot, which was really something special for its time, and I suppose still is now. The special effects used, although somewhat rubbish now, were brilliant at the time, but still quite enjoyable to watch to this day nonetheless; and in particular, I’m talking about the eye scene. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, watch the movie.

Although I felt it was slightly slow to start with, once the movie picks up, it is thoroughly enjoyable throughout, filled with suspense, action, and beautifully crafted one-liners from our main man, Arnie. In fact, the one-liners that Arnie comes out with is one of the main reasons I like the movie, and many of his other movies for that matter. Either way, the movie is still a good one, and is one I would definitely recommend. Another great movie from hugely renowned producer, and director, James Cameron.

Also, recent movie news has it reported that Arnie will be returning to the big screen, in numerous movies, including the upcoming Terminator movie, so keep an eye out for further information. The movie of 1985 will be revealed next week…

Matrix Reloaded

It’s official, Keanu Reeves has confirmed that The Matrix 4 and 5 are coming. In a recent event at the London International School of Performing Arts, Reeves spoke about his career span, when giving a speech to a class about his upcoming flick, Henry’s Crime. Although mentioning 47 Ronin, and  Bill & Ted 3, the obvious big news was the announcement was that of the new Matrix scripts, which have been completed.

Reeves revealed that he met up with The Wachowski Brothers during the Christmas period, who told him that they have completed scripts for the next two installments. It has been said that the films will also be gracing the big screen in 3D, and that talks have already began with  James Cameron, about the pros and cons of using 3D technology. Seems like a good idea.

Reeves also added that he is excited to be working once again as Neo on the next two Matrix movies, claiming that the ‘treatments will truly revolutionize the action genre like the first Matrix did’.

And can I just add, thank god that they’re deciding to make another installment, because let’s be fair, the ending to The Matrix Revolutions, to sum up, was pretty shit.
